Check Valves

Check valves are widely used because they are necessary to stop reverse flow and the resulting water hammer as well. These valves open on the forward flow but do not allow reverse flow.

Check valves are used in an array of applications on almost every process piping system. Check valves preventing reverse flow protect damage to pipes, other valves, and pumps. Pressure piping systems can be very complicated in non-compressible fluid applications.

Speed of the check valve closing internal mechanism is critical. If the check valve can close prior to the fluid reversing direction then water hammer, broken pipes, and destroyed pumps are avoided.
